The 2024 Advanced Surface Engineering Division (SE) program includes two oral sessions and one poster session focused on all topics, basic and applied, experimental and computational, related to engineering the properties and functionalities of surfaces. The Monday morning session “Plasma-Assisted Surface Modification and Deposition Processes/Nanostructured and Multifunctional Coatings” will feature the invited talk by Prof. Johanna Rosen from Linköping University, followed by eleven presentations on the growth of ceramic, polymeric, and metallic thin films as well as the functionalization of surfaces for tailoring their functional properties. The afternoon session “Surface Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Development” will include the invited talk by Prof. Marcus Hans from Aachen University, which will be followed by ten presentations covering a wide range of topics related to thermomechanical, oxidation-resistance, and tribological properties. During the two oral sessions, presentations from the finalists of the ASED Young Investigator Award (Nikola Koutná, Monu Mishra, Lihua Lou) will also be delivered. Several presentations are tagged as “a Rising Star Presentation”. The SE program also features a poster session with six posters.
